Change

One friend was talking about what he could have done for the last four years.
Another thinks it would now be irresponsible to have children.
One feels like she just got back from a funeral.
Another wants to move to Equador.

They are not really surprised. Just sad, maybe bitter, and a little bit wallowing.

Last night, one friend told another that if he is an artist, he should create something to reassure people now in these troubling times.

So I looked through photos I have taken in the last year, trying to find something that would evoke comfort, calmness, perhaps even some joy. I discovered that most of my stuff is pretty lonely. Maybe that is just a function of the fact that I consider photography to be best a solitary activity. And when I have the desire to take photos, I usually am in an introspective mood. What comes out is thoughtful, still, often harsh and sometimes haunting.

So maybe it's time for something different.

Maybe it's time for me to consider a new way to shoot. New subjects. New environments. New attitude. I won't abandon my developing style nor practice, but simply diversify my approach.

Let me begin by introducing this site's first cat photo.

Kind readers, this is Olga.

Perhaps she can bring some joy to this gray morning in America.

Olga! You've finally joined the fold of cats harrassed by the owner paparazzi! Hold onto your whiskers.

Irving! I am hoping at some point to discuss with you the finer points of avoiding the pesky cameras. My sister Frieda just hides under the bed or moves into a neverending blur.

Olga is diva and she knows it.

Your photos are beautiful.
I now await the new direction you will take with your camera.
Your text, captures the essence of the lone photographer.
Olga is quite the Queen cat, I hope to see more of her and how she rules the roost.

Avoidance is fruitless. Plus, I'm good looking, so why not?

I like to play hard to get. Adds to my inherent visual value.

PS:I think you are a very handsome feline.

I love you, Olga!

Olga is beautiful, and (as I do my own loving cat), I envy her sweet obliviousness to the impending downfall of America. Pets are so lucky.

Anne: I love batkitty#3.

Ayelet: Olga is very political, but she doesn't beleive in electoral system so she refused to vote. I figured it was Ok since we live in a safe state. :)
