A Day at the Races

Corie and I went to see the start of the idiotarod at Fulton Ferry. Instead of trying to explain this, just check out the link above.

I love these events where creativity and spontaneity rule and people pull out all the stops. The moment the race started, I found myself in the middle of the street surrounded by some of the greatest freaks New York has to offer. I tried to take pictures, but really all I wanted to do was soak up the glee.

We decided not to speed ahead to follow the race. Instead we chose to head home for some afternoon cooking. But on the way back, we encountered a group of snow monkeys who were creating hell for any of the slower shopping cart teams. Nothing like being in the middle of a snowball ambush.

I wish I had known about this sooner than 2:30 on Saturday... it looked like a lot of fun!

Gawd, that's so awesome. And makes me miss NYC terribly. I think I'm overdue for another visit.
