Hips
This mural sits just south of the designated design district of the city. Squat buildings in white and light colors are full of contemporary funiture and fixtures. There are restaurants that were declared hip two years ago and building fascades created to look like living room interiors.
Every time you drive by, there seems to be some skinny model standing on a nearby corner, with glitter on her chest and a cigarette dangling from her long fingers. Her unblemished skin is one of the only clear signs that she is not just another street walker that troll these streets for johns at any time to spend an hour at the cheap motels that line the boulevard. Another sign is the photographer who buzzes around her waiting for the right light...the right traffic...the right inspiration...for the same photo taken a million times before.
That mural is creepy. It reminds me of an art therapy drawing by somebody with an eating disorder.
